I am now thinking that since the @ and the # are the only keys that are wrong, they are disabled to prevent people from using email and twitter. Since the device was bought in mainland china, it is most likely disabled as a way for the Communist Party to prevent citizens from accessing online things. I think I am going to put this thing away and not use it.

Test if holding ALT key and typing "64" does produce a @
Installing en-us mui package could be needed to have the suited input method. |
